Can Cats Eat Raspberries?

Can Cats Eat Raspberries?

Yes, cats can eat raspberries but only in moderation.

An aggregate fruit similar to strawberries and blackberries, raspberries can be eaten by your cat in limited quantities. This fruit is an excellent source of water, fiber, and nutrients that are good for your cat. Vitamins A and C, calcium, manganese, and potassium are some of them.

Remember that your cat is an obligate carnivore, which means that she cannot survive on eating only fruits and vegetables. These should only be given to her as treats, and should make up about 10% of her daily calorie intake. Giving her too much raspberries may result in digestive issues such as diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, upset stomach, abdominal pain, kidney damage or toxicity, dehydration, and/or decrease in appetite.

How to feed raspberries to your cat: Wash the raspberries right before you feed them to your cat. Giving your cat unwashed raspberries may expose them to harmful bacteria and chemicals. Also, slice them into smaller pieces that your cat can easily chew.

When feeding raspberries for the first time, let her try one small piece and observe her for any changes in her mood, behaviour, eating, and litter box habits. Limit feeding your cat one to two pieces of raspberry once or twice a week.

Here are three ideas for raspberry treats your cat will love:

  1. Serve a piece of chilled raspberry to help your cat cool down on a hot day.
  2. Make raspberry sorbet that you and your kitty can both enjoy!
  3. Combine raspberry and pineapple for this frozen treat.

In summary: Raspberries are delicious treats that you can share with your pet cat every so often. The refreshing fruit can be a welcome addition to your cat’s diet as long as her stomach is able to handle it. Consult with your doctor to find out if your cat has any health conditions that may be aggravated by eating raspberries.
