Yes, Caldrea is cruelty free.
Owned by SC Johnson, Caldrea manufactures household items founded on the idea that “caring for our homes should be a beautiful experience.” Their products can be purchased on their website by shopping by fragrance (they offer 10 signature scents) or by product (choose from household cleaners, laundry cleaners, hand care, candles, and room sprays).
Safety is one of the brand’s primary concerns. They never use parabens, phthalates, ammonia, chlorine, phosphates, or petroleum distillates. More importantly, they have certifications from various organisations such as the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil, The Conservation Alliance, and Leaping Bunny. They clarify that they “methodically assess each ingredient for health and safety, alone and again in the final product formulation. We use verified laboratory tests and do not test on animals.
Because we do not test on animals, we cannot make the legal labeling claim of non-toxic. The FDA currently requires animal testing to support that claim. We are investigating in-vitro (test tube) methodologies that, in the future, may be able to support our non-toxic formulation process. Today, a toxicologist reviews all Caldrea formulations against a mathematical, theoretical model for safety assessment.”
Aside from being certified by Leaping Bunny, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has included Caldrea on their Beauty Without Bunnies global list. However, it should be noted that their parent company, SC Johnson, also manufactures Glade and Windex—two household brands that are not considered cruelty free.
